Re:Ringworm 4 Months ago Karma: 1
We were very lucky when my horse got ringworm because we managed to contain it. None of the other horses in the yard got it and no humans caught it either. The vet prescribed some medication that you had to paint on to the affected areas every day. We kept him in for about 4 weeks. We had only recently moved him to that yard when he caught ringworm. The vet had a look at his stable, the yard and his field, there was one place where cattle could look over the fence into the yard and he said that the cattle were carrying ringworm. I made sure to keep my horse away from there and I think they put up an electric fence so that the cattle couldn't come to that edge of their field. My horse was fine, he didn't catch ringworm again.

That is alot of work! So, I'm assuming that humans can pick up the ringworm from the horse? In hot weather we'd ride with shorts or bathing suits, and that's alot of skin being next to alot of hide.

Ringworm does have alot of work to keep them safe. But it is worth it because you don't want it to return. You have everything to do with the success of the application. You have to double check your work and go over it again. That's a terrible thing for horses or humans too. You need to avoid it if you can.

There was a period when i was at school where loads of kids caught ringworm. I'm guessing it's pretty infectious?

Would ringworm in horses or cattle be the same sort that people can get?

Grace is right,

the best way to treat ringworm is with shampoo and conditioner, fungatrol is pecifically for this ailment, youl have more sucess with this than basic shampoos

Ringworm is horrible and uncomfortable however easy to get rid of,

these 2 articals will help, i dont agree with everything said in them but should help you understand your horses ailment
